God the Savior of Those in Distress
Psalm 107:1-9
"Give thanks to the Lord who is good,
whose love endures forever!
Let that be the prayer of the Lord's redeemed,
those redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those gathered from foreign lands,
from east and west, from north and south.
Some had lost their way in a barren desert;
found no path toward a city to live in.
They were hungry and thirsty;
their life was ebbing away.
In their distress they cried to the Lord,
who rescued them in their peril,
Guided them by a direct path
so they reached a city to live in.
Let them thank the Lord for such kindness,
such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
For he satisfied the thirsty,
filled the hungry with good things."
This past week on campus I was struck by how much our society places such importance on material things to make us happy. As I watched students walking to and from class, in their new clothes, talking on their cell phones, and listening to their iPods, I wondered if they were searching for happiness and for love in mere things. How fruitless their search must be!
I pray for all those who are searching for LOVE in the wrong places, in the wrong things, with the wrong people. I pray that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes, their ears, and their hearts, so that they might call on the Lord in their distress and find LOVE in his mercy and forgiveness.
I pray for all of us, that we might forever grow in LOVE in the Lord.
Open my eyes Lord, help me to see your face
Open my ears Lord, help me to hear
Courtney
